Were there any male prostitutes in the old west?

April 3, 2009 by admin

I’ve read about saloon girls and such, but has anyone heard of any males doing that kind of work? How about transvestites?

I’m fairly sure that there would of been at least a small percentage of male prostitutes, most likely young(like 8-17) androgynous looking boys.

Well, not the "old West" per se, but in 1906 there was a verified brothel where men catered to women. It was called Aunt Josie's. Very interesting bit of San Francisco history.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was male prostitution (M4M) back then. The San Francisco Barbary coast was very wide open, and pretty whatever anyone wanted, they could find. Same with places like the San Diego "stingaree district" and also in Portland, OR and Seattle, WA or any other port city in the Western US
